bara
bara magazine
Creating a mini publication was definitely a very exciting challenge to take on my Magazine Production & Publishing course. We were tasked with creating a media kit and a 4-page magazine and tackle all sorts of aspects such as the branding, target market, page layout, advertisements, and developing a proper cover and masthead. Needless to say, it was an amazing opportunity to experience more long document projects and expand my InDesign skill set and really see how it can interact with multiple Adobe applications like Photoshop and Illustrator. Take a look at what I submitted for both the Media Kit and Mini Magazine.
the media kit
Our media kit had to include an email to potential advertisers, market research as well as include our publication’s mission and vision.
I decided to propose a magazine celebrating Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) and LGBTQ2S+ men or male-identifying individuals called bara. The design of the overall media kit and magazine is minimalistic as to pull focus from the overall design and towards the men and their stories featured in our publication.

the mini magazine
For this part of the project, we had to create a four page publication that included a cover, masthead, an advertisement as well a two page spread of editorial content. I used Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop when creating advertisement and editing the photos I gathered from stock photography websites. Creating master pages made the project a lot easier as well incorporating a variety of paragraph and character styles.
